Why another blog?

Years ago, in an effort to provide clients with an at-home tool to conserve valuable face-to-face therapy time, I began writing tip sheets.  The tips are easy to incorporate and almost universal in their applicability. Because I passionately want everyone to experience optimal mental health, I published these tips online in my first blog, dailyshoring.com:  90 Daily Tips for Emotional Well-Being.

I was moved by the communications I received from all over the world that these 90 Daily Tips for Emotional Well Being helped people.   I also realized that writing improved my ability to articulate concepts to therapy clients.

I still have many psychological concepts I want to share, but dailyshoring.com is a specific format—90 daily tips with a specific action item.  So, rather than confuse the daily tips format, in 2018 I dusted off a domain I purchased years ago—www.awarefulness.com.

Why “awarefulness”?

The first time I heard the word ‘mindfulness,’ I thought, “That’s not the right word—it should be ‘awarefulness.’”  After all, before mindfulness became a word, ‘mindful’ was defined (in my old Merriam-Webster) as “inclined to be aware.”  To me, being aware is more intentional and active than being mindful, so awarefulness makes more sense.  Besides, I like the play-on-words with my last name.

I hope you make use of awarefulness.com to maintain and improve your mental hygiene!  You can subscribe to the awarefulness newsletter here:

P.S.  All the photos are photos I’ve taken myself.  If you want to know the location where the photo was taken, hover your cursor over the photo.  Photography can be another way of being awareful—I see and experience things differently when I’m taking a photo.

P.P.S. I am an advocate of what we all now know as mindfulness; you can read some of my writings on mindfulness here:
